Sunday 9th June
Welcome to Ireland!!!!!! We meet at Dublin International Airport at 11am and get our luggage on to our tour bus as we start our musical journey in the company of Clover’s Revenge as we embark on our eagerly awaited tour of the Emerald Isle. From there we take the short journey across Dublin City to pay a visit to St. James’s Gate and the Guinness Storehouse. Here we take a guided tour of the brewery and we get an opportunity to pour our own pint and relax in the Gravity Bar with it’s 360 degree views of Dublin City. From there, we meet with a local historian, Conn Cassin, for a guided walk exploring some of the sites of the 1916 Easter Rising. From here it’s off to The Harcourt Hotel, our hotel for the next couple of nights. Once we check in and freshen up, it’s down to the bar where the first of several Clover’s Revenge gigs opens at 10pm.
Monday 10th June
Following our breakfast we board the tour bus for the short trip across Dublin City to pay a visit to Kilmanham Jail, the last holding place and site of the execution of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising. It was here that James Connolly, Joseph Plunkett, Patrick Pearse and others were executed and spawned a surge of resistance against British rule in Ireland. We will even sing a song or two to commemorate this crucial event in Irish history. We then make our way to the world famous O’Donoughues Bar, home of the world renowned group ‘The Dubliners” and the spiritual home of Irish music in Dublin City. On this evening the group will have a relaxing time in the Temple Bar area of the city, which is famed for its award winning restaurants, bars and entertainment.
Tuesday 11th June
After breakfast, we’ll meet in the hotel foyer at 10am to load up our luggage and get ready for the road. One this day we will be taking a trip to the north west of the country to the village of Ardara, Co. Donegal. Ardara is a stunningly beautiful heritage town, world famous for it’s charm, hand-woven tweed and traditional music. While we re there we’ll get a hand weaving demonstration from master weaver Eddie Doherty and take the opportunity to stroll around the village and share a pint or two in some of the charming and authentic Irish pubs. We’ll stay that in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel and then join Clover’s Revenge for another of the gigs on their tour in the world famous Nancy’s Bar at 9.30pm.
Wednesday 12th June.
After breakfast we will load up the tour bus and take the road along the Wild Atlantic Way stopping for photos at the Glengesh Pass. Heading further west we will arrive at the village of Glencolmcille, one of the westerly-most points of Ireland. There we will take a step back in time with a guided tour around the Folk Village, an authentic representation of village life in Ireland during the 18th, 19th and 20th century. From there we will travel further along the Wild Atlantic Way to the magnificent and sublime Sliabh Liag Cliffs.
Making our way through the fishing port of Killybegs, (which was once Ireland’s largest fishing port), we will arrive at the small coastal village of Burtonport to take a short ferry crossing to the amazing Arranmore Island. Twinned with Beaver Island on Lake Michigan, Arranmore Island is an area of outstanding beauty with an often tragic history, but this over-night stay will provide a clear picture of modern day Irish island life. Clover’s Revenge will take the stage that night at 10pm in Earlys Bar for a rare gig on an actual Irish island.
Thursday 13th June
After a famous Arranmore breakfast, we take the 10am ferry crossing back to Burtonport to meet up with the tour bus. Our destination on that day will be the wonderful Galway City. We’ll have a couple of tunes in the great hall after Leonie gives us a guided tour and a history of their wonderful home.
